Action Adventure Game of the Year

The Action-Adventure genre had a lot of strong candidates this year. We gave consideration to Crackdown 2, Assassins Creed: Brotherhood, Red Dead Redemption and, Alan Wake among others. Check out the winner after the break.

Red Dead Redemption is an epic western adventure set in a seemingly unending open world. You fill the boots of John Marston a simple rancher who just can't seem to stay out of trouble. In its obvious Grand Theft Auto roots this game is almost anything you want it to be. You could spend hours in the saloon playing cards, You can start random bar fights for fun, You can go hunt defenseless woodland creatures, You can even spend hours walking around picking flowers and, that is without actually getting into the game. Add a pile of online game modes and a tone of post release downloadable content this game is huge bang for your buck. The lengthy story and varied achievement list should keep you returning to the wild west for at least 100 hours. If you haven't picked it up yet give Red Dead Redemption a try this holiday season.

Quotes From the Staff

Stallion83: Easily the best western game ever made. Surpasses the greatness of GTA4.

StophJ: I'm not a huge fan of GTA4 so, I was skeptical of Grand Theft Ponies. After picking it up I was really surprised how well this game was presented and how much depth it offered.

In this survival horror disaster you play as Special Agent Francis York Morgan (He's like Alan Wakes much less interesting cousin). Set in a fictional north western town (once again similar to Alan Wake) Francis is suffering from delusion and supernatural beings (starting to see a trend here). You are in town to investigate a murder but the only murder you should be investigating is the one of your eyeballs from all the White flickering and jaggy edges that are only rivaled by the best of the games available on Playstation 1. Game Informer Magazine may call this game a cult classic. We here at 1milliongamerscore.com call it crap! And, yes, i am aware this game released before Alan Wake.

Quotes From the Staff
Stallion83: It's so bad, I wouldn't even touch it.

StophJ: I am aware my purchasing this game is directly responsible for more games like it being created and I apologize.

  1. Oops, I think you meant that Deadly Premonition was actually the best game of the year. Please continue to provide more insightful commentary when you're not busy completing Japanese visual novel games that you don't understand or enjoy.

EXACTLY!! It might not be your thing, but Deadly Premonition was not the worst game of the year. It was a legit great game.

  4. Have to agree, Deadly Premonition is a great game. Sure, the controls suck and the gameplay isn't the best around, but it has a genuinely well written narrative. Also, it's fun. Fun because I'm laughing at the shortcoming perhaps, but that's something it has over many of the 360's more popular titles.

  6. I suspect that your eagerness to complete games as quickly as possible has led you to skip or not pay attention to the story and characters in Deadly Premonition. Not only is it the most emotionally involving game I've played since (and possibly including) Shadow of the Colossus it is also the funniest game in years. Most of that humour is intentional. I laughed out loud dozens of times and I almost cried at the end. Not many games can do that to you. And the much maligned combat sections are actually pretty effective in creeping you out as you play.

  7. In all honesty Stallion83...wouldn't it be better to try the game out first before condemning it? Not that I've played it either, so I'm not one to talk.

  8. You guys do realize Stoph wrote the article? We put our heads together in chat to come up with the picks but I never played DP. He made it clear to me that this was the worst AA he played all year. I really didn't want to touch it though.

  9. I'm not one to rush through games or care about completions I just know on a technical level and fun the game was lacking alot even as a $20 title. MorphX was my runner up. It was also terrible. I really didn't expect the support for Deadly premonition. Thanks for leaving feed back it makes me feel good people actually read my articles on here even if they disagree.

  10. Couldn't disagree more about your selection of Deadly Premonition. Sure, it wasn't graphically impressive and had really stiff controls, but DP's story and the way it was presented is unmatched.
